Do
Tanning Beds Cause Cancer?
Unfortunately tanning Beds
do Cause Cancer. That's the verdict in a
recent article published on BBC
news.
They make no bones about the fact that tanning beds do
cause cancer meaning they are carcinogenic to
humans.
In fact to help make the
point, the IARC, which is an expert committee that makes
world health recommendations, says that Melanoma is increased
by 75% in people who regularly use sun beds before the age of
30.
Such findings have caused the
U.K. to consider banning the use of tanning beds to
those under the age of 18. They are even going so far as to put
tanning beds in the same league of health risks as smoking and
asbestos.
It's not clear, however on how
the cancer risk is increased if taking safety precautions when
using sun beds. For example, practicing safety by not burning
and limiting the number of sessions per year, but
overall it is safe to
assume that tanning beds can cause skin cancer.
If you love the look of a tan
but want to go a much healthier route, you might be better
of using sunless
tanning methods. It's a lot safer and
the results are faster.
