How to
Get Rid of Dark Circles Under Eyes
Dark circles under the eyes are a common problem for many
people and it seems we all experience it at one time or
another.
There are various reasons why we get dark circles but the
main reasons are usually due to fatigue, allergies or
heredity.
Regardless of the cause, here are a few home remedies for
dark circles under the eyes that relieve puffiness,
discoloration and restore a refreshed look.
1. Get plenty of rest. Lack of rest and fatigue is a big
contributor to dark circles. This is probably due to the fact
that lack of sleep can make your skin pale and it has also been
known to reduce circulation somewhat. Try to get at least 8
hours of quality sleep a night remembering that drugs, alcohol
and stress greatly affect the quality of your sleep.
2. Apply an eye cream containing vitamin K and retinol. Dark
circles may be caused by a deficiency of vitamin K and it has
been found that the combination of Vitamin K and Retinol
significantly reduces discoloration and puffiness around the
eyes.
3. Don't rub your eyes. Our eyes often get itchy from
allergies or other irritants and as a result we rub our eyes.
If your eyes are itchy don't rub them, by doing so you break
the small capillaries beneath your skin which causes puffiness
and discoloration.
Apply a small amount of Blistex’s Lip Medex under your eyes.
This can also reduce the dark circles. Unfortunately this can
make your eyes water a little at first, however give it a few
minutes for your eyes to adjust and you'll find that it does
actually work.
4. Dark circles may be caused by inflamed or enlarged veins
beneath the skin. Try taking Butchers Broom Root. Taken daily, this
common herb (used to treat weak circulation, hemorrhoids and
varicose veins) has been effective in reducing dark
circles.
5. It helps a lot to treat your skin while you sleep. There
are overnight facial masks you can get that may help puffiness
and discoloration but you can also make your own. Covering your
eyes with a cold cloth compress while you sleep can help a
lot.
6. First thing in the morning lie down in a calm, quiet
place and apply cool tea bags or cucumber slices to your closed
eyes. Lie quietly for 15 minutes. The tannin in the tea bags
reduces swelling and discoloration; the cucumber slices will
reduce puffiness while refreshing the appearance of skin around
the eyes. You can also place over your eyes a cold washcloth
wrapped in ice cubes or cold spoons.
7. Take your vitamins. It's important to note that dark
circles under the eyes are sometimes caused by light carbon
deposits that come from incomplete protein digestion. Poor
protein digestion can come from insufficient hydrochloric acid
in your stomach that could be caused from a lack of B6 and
Folic Acid. You may not be absorbing B6 or folic acid and need
to take in these vitamins in a different form or another way.
You should check with your doctor on this if you think this
might be a cause.
Also People with allergies tend to be deficient in B6, folic
acid and B12 on occasion. Taking a multivitamin, if you don't
already, may help with your allergies as well as black
circles.
