Home > Hair Removal - What are the Best Options? Hair Removal
Summertime and vacations mean more fun and also more skin exposure. Of course more skin exposure means having smooth stubble free beautiful
skin. But getting rid of that unsightly hair means finding a method that works for you and won't cost you a fortune.
We spend millions each year on products to remove hair in unwanted areas, so what are the best options for hair removal?
Here's a guide to getting rid of those problem hairs and how to best do it.
Shaving Shaving lasts about 1-3 days and it's the least expensive. Razors are about $2-$4 in the
drug store. You can save even more money by using simple hair conditioner on your legs when shaving instead of using those
expensive gels and creams.
The down side to shaving is that it can produce rashes, nicks and irritation. Always follow your shave with an alcohol based
aftershave. It stings a little at first but reduces the overall irritation of shaving.
Waxing Waxing lasts about 3-6 weeks, so it's perfect for vacations. Your skin stays smooth for a much longer
time. The down side to waxing is it can be a little uncomfortable to do, this is because often times a layer of your skin comes off
with the wax leaving it a bit red and somewhat sore. Waxing does cost more and the growing out period is problematic as the hair has
to grow to a certain length before it can effectively be waxed again.
Hair removal creams and depilatories Depilatories are chemical creams, gels or lotions that remove the
hair from your skin. It last for about 5 days to two weeks. They are fairly inexpensive and you can get them at any drug store. The
problem with depilatories is they are messy and have a strong odor. They can cause some burning and/or rashes for people with
sensitive skin. Before using a depilatory, it's best to do a skin test, this way you will save yourself some unwanted
irritation.
If you do experience a rash or inflation with a depilatory, use a calming skin lotion or let your skin soak in warm water, this will help
reduce inflammation.
Epilators This is the removal of the hair using an electrical tweezer. This tweezer removes the hair from
the root and often kills the hair follicle removing the hair permanently. The problem with this process is it is expensive and it doesn't
always work as advertised meaning it's often not permanent and you'll most likely need to use a tweezers on the areas that didn't take.
Epilators may also leave your skin red and irriated so use a soothing cream or soak the area after use. Epilators seem to work best on
small areas rather than on larger areas.
In Summary Waxing can be a bit more painful but it is the most effective way to keep hair growth down. If you choose to wax your hair you'll
get the best results if done by a professional.
