Tumescent Liposculpture - What you Should know

Tumescent Liposculpture is the safest method of liposuction available and is today one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures. This new treatment has been found to be safer; it offers less discomfort, is much more efficient and has much better recovery results.  These benefits have also allowed more effective treatment of older patients as well.

How does it work?
Tumescent liposculpture uses an advanced technique of permanently removing excess fat deposits in areas that are resistant to diet and exercise. The technique starts by infiltrating the fat with a sterile fluid before it is removed.  This solution completely numbs the area due to the effect of local anesthetic, therefore general anesthesia or sedation is not required. The blood vessels are then constricted using a substance called adrenalin, this greatly reduces bleeding.   Then using suction tubes called cannulas, the fat is removed.  The term liposculpture is coined because the surgeon can actually sculpt the area to give it a desired shape such as removing bumps and grooving.  Also there are no stitches or ugly scars.

Benefits of Tumescent Liposculpture

Minimal loss of blood
With a typical liposurgery many patients required a blood transfusion because of the extensive blood loss; however with "tumescent liposculpture" there is less than a teaspoon of blood loss.  This is a huge improvement over losing more than 400 cc of blood with liposurgery.

No general anesthesia
General anesthesia with any surgery puts you at risk and many liposurgery procedures require general anesthesia, however "tumescent liposculpture" uses a local anesthesia which is a much safer alternative.

Faster Recovery
It stands to reason that if you have less blood loss and bleeding you’ll experience less bruising and less soreness.  In fact many patients can return to work within a couple of days.  It's been noted that about 50% of patients experience no bruising at all.
